The Lipenka pasture committee. To spread the traditional knowledge relating to the use of pastures among pasture users is the main activity of the National pasture users’ Association of Kyrgyzstan “Kyrgyz Jayity” for today. In order to implement the activity, the following pasture committees were selected: the Lipenka pasture committee in Zheti-Oguz district of Issyk-Kul oblast, the Bel-Aldy pasture committee in Toktogul district of Jalal-Abad oblast, the Zherge -Tal pasture committee in Naryn district of Naryn oblast.read more

The National pasture users’ Association of Kyrgyzstan “Kyrgyz Jayity” celebrated its third anniversary this year. During this period, the organization trained pasture users on new methods of using pastures through the introduction of best modern practices, conduct of seminars, round tables, trainings and exchange of experience in building the capacity of pasture committees. To date, many pasture committees are actively working.read more

Our pastures are one of the main economic bases in our republic. Pastures affect agriculture, economy, tourism, business, high level of culture and, the most important, the life of the Kyrgyz people. Thus, pastures influence one of the directions of our economy. Therefore, in recent years I am interested in pastures as a representative of youth. In fact, the life of rural people is liaised directly with pastures. In spring they graze cattle on distant pastures to increase the number of livestock, make harvesting; in autumn they sell the cattle, harvest cattle feed, and in winter they feed the cattle and go back to the pastures in spring. According to statistics for 2018, 4 million of our population lives in rural areas. About 90 percent of them keep two or three heads of livestock in the yard.read more
Community-based natural resource management in Kyrgyzstan

To remedy the degradation and ineffective management of pastureland, the Law on Pastures, enacted in 2009, allowed the formation of Pasture Users’ Unions (PUUs). The National Pasture Users’ Association of Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz Jayity, has facilitated the formation of 454 PUUs. Using community-based pasture management systems, these committees have enabled pasture users and local communities to participate and directly manage local areas, learn new approaches, and adopt best practices in rotational, effective, and planned pasture usage. As a result, land resources are better managed to prevent degradation.read more
